So oft’ do our excuses
So great and pious sound,
That we, impressed, are satisfied
That God by them is bound.
We squirm and turn and hesitate
(And then respond, in part,)
With but a meager, poor excuse
That breaks the Saviour’s heart.
But oh, what breaks God’s heart the most
And brings Him so much sorrow,
Is when we say, “I hear you Lord,
And I’ll obey – tomorrow!”
