Until He Comes Again

“About my Father’s business,”
Said Jesus, “I must be…
Until My days are over,
That is My life’s decree.”
“My Father’s given Me,” He said,
“A simple role to fill;
A singular objective:
I am to do His will.”
And you and I, no matter what
Our role on earth has been,
Have but that one objective, too,
Until He comes again.
We rush about so busily,
Treading this earth’s sod,
We act as though it would be nice
To do the will of God.
And yet, there is so much to do,
(We’ll try to work it in)
We’ll try to find some time for Him
Before He comes again!
Oh, beloved Christian friend,
As life’s late pages turn,
You tend to backwards look, and lo,
For early days you yearn.
You long to have them back once more;
You’d live so differently;
And oh, the hours you’d spend with Him,
How precious they would be.
You’d learn to wait upon Him
And let His time line flow,
You’d ne’er go rushing God’s “slow clock”
Now knowing what you know.
Upon His word you’d meditate;
You’d learn to “watch and pray”.
Instead of focusing on self,
You’d give your life away.
This world would be a launching pad;
For heaven you would yearn.
Your eyes upon the eastern sky
Would long for His return.
Then, why not stop right where you are?
You can’t relive past days,
But every minute left can bring
Glory, grace, and praise!
Let’s agree that from this day
No matter what has been
We’ll be His; and He’ll be all,
Until He Comes Again!
