And It Is Christmas
by Russell Kelfer
(There is no audio for this poem.)
The snowflakes fall, and an air of crispness fills the wintry sky
As the season for rejoicing so quickly passes by,
The blessed Yuletide hymns once more we gayly sing,
And festive trees, so brightly trimmed, the season’s tidings bring.
And so another Christmas passes, and like the wintry breeze,
Sinks to rest securely in our book of memories.
Picture now the blast of summer heat-perhaps in mid-July
No fleecy clouds of velvet snow are seen across the sky.
No trees, no gifts, no carols sung that Christ the Lord is born,
Yet we wish a merry Christmas on this scorching summer’s morn.
For you see, unknown to many, in a manger set apart
Jesus Christ again is born, born in a sinner’s heart.
For someone has heard the Master’s call, the call of Calvary,
Someone has heard His tender voice, “Take up thy Cross and follow me.”
And so, this sinner says, “I Come,” and though it’s wrecked and torn
Now his heart becomes a manger, and the Son of God is born.
Then it’s Merry Christmas, Christians, for though the season must depart,
Each hour, each moment, Jesus comes knocking on some heart.
Even at this moment, a heart still etched in sin
Hears His gentle knocking, asking to come in.
You can prepare a manger within your heart today,
You too can follow the Star of Life and learn that He is the Way,
And you can sing, rejoicing, for when one is cleansed from sin,
No matter the day, it is Christmas – for Christ is born again!
