Before It’s Too Late

As this age dissolves into history,
And the Master’s return ever nears,
The church continues to prosper and grow
Throughout these closing years.

Buildings are built, numbers expand,
Acceptability abounds.
But I wonder if God is satisfied
With the way the trumpet sounds?

I wonder if, in our self-serving way,
We aren’t building little troops,
Ignoring for the most part,
Those who aren’t part of our groups.

Jesus said, “When you call them in –
Go to a different kind;
Leave your comfort zone and go,
To the poor, the lame, and the blind.

Go to those who are hurting and weak,
Go to those who are dying,
Go to those who have felt defeat,
Who are literally tired of trying.

Go to the downcast, the outcast,
And go at any cost,
Find your way to the spiritually sick,
To the ones who know they are lost.

Invite them to God’s great dinner;
Tell them they’re honored guests.
Tell them for once, they’re the esteemed,
For once, you’re ignoring the rest.

Go to the highways and hedges,
Compel them to come in,
Go in great humility,
Conscious of your every sin.”

The banquet table is ready,
The preparation’s done.
The food of life has been prepared,
To be served by God’s own Son.

Go to the highways and hedges,
No, we don’t know the hour or the date –
But we know the banquet is ready,
Now go, before it’s too late!
