The Quiet Place

by Russell Kelfer

(There is no audio for this poem.)

There is no balm for the human heart,
Quite as healing as time apart,
No other oil, life’s scars erase,
Like hours beholding God’s dear face.

As the cares and the tears of life’s cruel grind,
Leave us bewildered, somehow we find
That even the hardest heart of stone
Melts in the presence of God alone!

What cleansing takes place in that wonderful hour
As heart, soul and mind stand in awe of God’s power.
The ominous clouds that hovered above
Seem to melt into sunlight, beholding His love.

The cares of this world, somehow take their place
As the heart, cleansed, absorbs His ne’er ending grace.
Your dreams may be dying – no matter – God lives!
You cry out in anguish; His mercy forgives!

The pain of the moment fades into the past,
Replaced by a hope that forever will last.
The fears of the future dissolve into dust
Your God says, “Just trust Me”, and trust Him you must.

You rise from your altar; the sky vivid blue,
What is there to fear now? Christ is in you!
All your perspective, transformed by His grace
Just from a trip to the quiet place!
