NOTE: Once in awhile something so good comes across your desk you want to share it – not by way of a quick click on an email to friends who may well groan at the prospect of another "forward" and go straight to "delete" – but with folks who expect you to value their time by giving you only "the good stuff." We think this true account shared by our friends at Life Action Ministries more than qualifies!
I knew I needed a mentor. I was busy with my career as a physician – too busy for my family. My priorities were out of whack. I needed someone who would encourage me and keep me on track. So I asked the pastors who came through the hospital, "Who's the one layperson you know in this area who looks most like Jesus?" When I heard the name Bill Judge multiple times, I said, "This is the guy I'd like to meet."
Move the scene from Kissimmee, Florida, (above) to San Antonio, Texas, about 30 years ago. The name of the café is Romanna instead of Joanie's, but you still have to travel all the way downtown to get there, and the menu is about the same – life-changing conversation over bacon and eggs and a cup of coffee. A middle-aged tire salesman instead of a milker of cows requires the early morning breakfast to show that you mean business about growing "Into His Likeness." The tire man will talk gently with you for an hour, referring always to Scripture, before he walks the block back to his business where he will open the garage bays to customers dropping off their cars for repair or tires on their way to work.

Assessing Your Spiritual Condition
Business executive Fred Smith, known for his mentoring skills, once wrote,
"When I was teaching an adult Sunday School class, one member who was the CEO of a major firm asked me to lunch. He started the conversation by saying, 'I have a CPA to keep me liquid, a lawyer to keep me legal, and a doctor to keep me healthy. But I have no one to help assess my spiritual condition. Can you give me a 'spiritual audit'?"
"In the years since, I have accumulated twelve questions I ask myself.
1. Am I content with who I am becoming?
2. Am I becoming less religious and more spiritual?
3. Does my family recognize the authenticity of my spirituality?
4. Do I have a flow-through philosophy?
5. Do I have a quiet center to my life?
6. Have I defined my unique ministry?
7. Is my prayer life improving?
8. Have I maintained a genuine awe of God?
9. Is my humility genuine?
10. Is my 'spiritual feeding' the right diet for me?
11. Is obedience in small matters built into my reflexes?
12. Do I have joy?"
Some Things Never Change
It's true. A few things never change.
Like the Gospel or our message.
But in keeping with the mushrooming social networking times, methods do. We are taking a deep breath and learning how to communicate through Facebook ®!
Find us at Russell Kelfer
Expect experimenting for awhile, but you'll probably see cameos of who we are, pictures of guests, great finds you'll want to explore with us.
And yes, we even plan to tweet now and then. Perhaps you'll find a gem of wisdom to spiritually spark your day on Twitter. Or directions to something you won't want to miss. We promise not to bore you with where we're eating lunch. (Most of the time it's the same old P&J sandwich at our desk, anyway.)
Will we ever answer your questions? Too soon to tell. We’ll see.

The Dothan Conspiracy
By Russell Kelfer
God really does use real people. His film festival of life is not a make-believe drama made up of cardboard saints performing before a backdrop of canvas skies and artificial lighting. God's design is not to paint perfect images of sinless saints before us and then shame us into submission because we can't measure up to unattainable goals. Our God uses anything. Our God uses anybody (anybody who will let Him). The want ads of God's classified section might well read:

"The soul that has been enriched by communion with God will not be dismayed by isolation but will welcome solitude.
He will seek not the crowd, but the closet, and emerging will never walk alone, for he has unseen companionship."
